Bia Hoi spot in De Tham Saigon
Bia Hoi spot in De Tham Saigon
If you are looking for a good meeting point and fancy a Bia Hoi (cheap Vietnamese drinking spot) with both locals and travellers you can hit a good one off De Tham.
Head down De Tham to the first corner, turn right at the GO2 bar and 50 metres on the right hand side are two together. The one nearest the alley will squeeze you in and with beer at 12,000 dong a litre you cannot go wrong.

Getting from Kampot and Kep to Hat Tien and Phu Quoc
Getting from Kampot and Kep in Cambodia to Hat Tien and Phu Quoc in Vietnam
There is some confusion here and little information so let me add some recent experience.
First of all I came from Cambodia to Vietnam although the reverse is just as easy now.
There is at least one tour operator in Kampot and probably several in Sihanoukville now that ply this route.
A bus leaves at around 6am and one at around 9am from Kampot, passing through Kep and heading for the border. The early morning bus is meant to go straight through the border and the later bus will require a change after the Vietnam post.
The road is ok most of the way but I can see that it will turn to mud if it is raining so take that into consideration.
If you are connectiong for a bus in Vietnam there is no worry as the operator will fix you up. If you are trying to get to Phu Quoc however be aware that the times for the boat are immutable! It will not wait! Do not believe anyone who says different and you really really want to get the fast jet boat NOT the slow boat.
Make sure you have confirmed your place on the fast boat and as soon as you arrive in Hat Tien exchange your ticket for the boat ticket and get on immediately, it may well be overbooked!
The agency will sell you a transfer in the office in Hat Tien for the trip between the ferry port on Phu Quoc and the main town or Long Beach. It is only a couple of bucks so do it, it will save you a load of time.

Costa Rica - Beaches and Cloudforests
Costa Rica can cost a packet! Check out my latest article on Travel Generation for the skinny on this must see destination.
A true gringo paradise in Central America, Costa Rica prides itself on the richness of its environment; pristine cloud forests, erupting volcanoes, spectacular beaches and adventure pursuits galore. Just one thing…bring money, plenty of money! Okay I am griping but having travelled through some pretty spectacular countryside throughout Central America and enjoyed hospitality at great budget prices it does come as somewhat of a shock to the system when you arrive at “America Lite”.
